IDR 12/85: San Juan (S-42): Second of two TR1700 submarines built by Thyssen Nordseewerke (Emden) for the Argentinian Navy, completed 18.11.85. N.B. Of the four further TR1700 submarines being built by Astillero Ministro Manuel Domecq Garcia in Argentina, the first is being fitted out, the second is at the section-fabrication stage, metal is being cut for the third and work on the fourth has not yet begun.

IDR 2/86: ARA San Juan, the second of two TR1700 submarines built by Thyssen Nordseewerke for the Argentinian Navy, was officially handed over on November 18, 1985, and sailed for Argentina during the month of December. The first of the four TR1700s being built in Argentina is expected to be completed in about two years' time. For further details of the construction program, see IDR 12/1985, p.2031.
