Township police investigated a June 21 accident when a 58-year-old Belle Mead man struck a mailbox on Morris Place at 11:09 pm and scarpered. He was stopped and admitted that he’d been drinking. He also failed a field sobriety test and was consequently arrested and charged with DWI, failing to maintain a lane, leaving the scene of an accident, and failing to report an accident. His car was towed, and he was released to a friend.

A 19-year-old Skillman man was arrested at the Township fireworks event at MHS on June 30 when MTPD officers traced the smell of burning pot to a parked car, in which the subject was found. A search of the car turned up more marijuana, under 50 grams, for which he was charged.

On July 13, a 52-year-old Somerset woman was arrested at 1:07 pm when she was stopped on Rt. 206 for failing to maintain her lane. The officer smelled marijuana coming from the car, conducted a search and found it. The driver was charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams, failure to maintain a lane, and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle.

Someone reported a reckless driver coming from the direction of Princeton on July 24 at 8:45. Moments later the caller told police that the driver just hit a utility pole on Rt. 518 near Van Zandt Rd. Investigating officers found that the driver, a 22-year-old Princeton man, was on drugs of some sort. The driver also failed a field sobriety test. He was arrested and taken to RWJUH by MEMS for medical evaluation and drug/ alcohol testing, and charged with driving while impaired, reckless driving, and failure to maintain a lane. He was released to a family member and what was left of his car was towed.

Township Police stopped a 31-year-old Middlesex woman on Aug. 6 at 1:48 am after they saw her failing to stop at a stop sign, and failed to stay in her lane while driving on Grayson Dr. She also failed a field sobriety test and was taken to MTPD HQ for processing, and her car was towed. She was charged with DWI, failing to maintain her lane, and failing to stop at a stop sign.

On Aug. 8 at 12:42 am, MTPD stopped a 23-year-old Skillman, man on Griggstown Rd. for a moving violation. The driver showed signs of intoxication and failed a field sobriety test. He was arrested and charged with DWI and following too closely; and his car was towed.

That same day, at 11 pm, MTPD arrested a 19-year-old Princeton man on Provinceline Road following a traffic stop and charged him with possession of marijuana under 50 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding, and CDS in a motor vehicle.

During June, MTPD filed 156 crime reports, investigated five case of criminal mischief, four cases of domestic violence, and nine burglar alarms. There was $1,430 in reported loses from theft, and one burglary. There were 59 burglar alarm reports, two adults arrested for drugs, and four adults arrested for DWI. 12 adults and no juveniles were arrested during the month. There were 51 car accidents, 833 motor vehicle stops, with 304 tickets issued.
