This summer, DoughMain Education Foundation welcomed nine service-learning interns with positions in graphic design, marketing and social media, grant writing, and general support. Beyond developing their skills and working together in a positive environment, the interns all chose DoughMain Education Foundation with a common passion in mind: helping spread financial literacy to the community.
The interns volunteered their time to assist DoughMain Education Foundation in its mission to prepare today’s students for a lifetime of financial responsibility through engaging programs delivered to schools and homes. The interns spread this mission by connecting with educators, schools, and with community members at local events held by DoughMain Education Foundation. Whether it was through the redesign of the Foundation’s financial literacy high school curriculum called the FitKit or a fundraising phone call to a local bank or posting a Twitter comment containing a financial literacy tip, the interns attempted to close the financial literacy gap in all areas of their work.
Why have the interns been so passionate about what they do at DoughMain Education Foundation? Many have recently taken on sizable debt with their college student loans and others have witnessed the hardships associated with poor financial decision making. The importance of financial literacy from an early age has resonated with the interns and driven them to want to educate and empower the community one student, one classroom, and one school district at a time.
Not only have the interns been passionate about DoughMain Education Foundation, they have also been dedicated and committed to the cause. One of the interns commuted two hours daily to Princeton, while other students also juggled their internship with a summer class. All of the interns went above and beyond to support the foundation’s mission and were the definition of what it means to have a “Do Good for Good” attitude. The interns serve as the future of DoughMain Education Foundation, and without their commitment, drive and attitude, the Foundation would not be where it is today.
